Welcome from AMHA President, Cindy Mugnier & Executive Director, Julie Broadway:

1830CindyMandJulieB.jpg The Morgan horse is known for many things: his extreme beauty and heart, his athleticism and versatility, his willingness and intellect. But his most important trait—the one that distinguishes him from all other breeds—is his people-loving attitude. The Morgan horse wants a relationship with you and that is why our slogan is, "The Horse That Chooses You." No doubt your involvement with the Morgan horse is a relationship you will treasure for a lifetime. There's just nothing better than spending time with your Morgan.

The American Morgan Horse Association seeks to advance the breed and offer exciting programs and services for all our members. Membership gives you the opportunity and benefit of being a part of and connected with your favorite breed and all your friends in the Morgan Community. In addition to providing the services of registrations and transfers, we continue to  offer new programs designed to enhance your involvement with your Morgan and give you more for your membership.

We hope you will take advantage of the opportunities AMHA provides.

Our mission:

The American Morgan Horse Association exists to preserve, promote and perpetuate the Morgan breed.

Our purpose:

AMHA is a non-profit 501(c) (5) corporation organized under the laws of the State of New York.

  • AMHA is an international membership organization serving 30 countries and 50 US states. AMHA provides services to the entire Morgan horse world. Its exclusive responsibility is the day-to-day operation of the breed registry, The Morgan Horse magazine, breed-related services and breed promotions (advertising, trade shows, articles, press releases, etc.).
  • AMHA provides information and educational services and material to its members and the public at large. Member services include the Network (member newsletter), a Membership Directory, member discounts on registry services, educational events, and Morgan memorabilia. Additional services and programs available to members and the public include  the AMHA Convention, AMHA website, and educational/informational brochures.
  • AMHA conducts a number of recognition programs available to Morgan enthusiasts including the AMHA Pathways and Open Competition programs. The AMHA also has one of the first, and historically, one of the largest youth programs of any breed organization. AMHA is particularly proud of its Youth of the Year Competition and program.
  • AMHA holds an Annual Meeting where Association business and elections are conducted. Training and instructional seminars, with an emphasis on education, are offered to attendees. Honors and awards are presented at the convention for outstanding achievements with the breed.
  • In addition, AMHA oversees the American Morgan Horse Educational Charitable Trust (AMHECT), a 501 c (3) non-profit, tax-exemption trust that serves to provide grants to educational and charitable programs. Contributions to AMHECT are tax deductible.

Get to know the Board:

AMHA operates primarily based upon the decisions of its members through a Board of Directors, composed of 10 regional representatives (presently totaling 14) and  3 at-Large representatives. Meet the AMHA Board.

The Morgan Community:

In 1909, fifty-seven Morgan horse enthusiasts joined together to officially form the American Morgan Horse Club. From this strong beginning, the breed and the club grew and evolved to the American Morgan Horse Association Inc. (AMHA), which was formed in 1941.

In 1980 the American Morgan Horse Institute (AMHI) was established to help educate the public about the breed’s role as the pride and product of America. AMHI is a non-profit, tax-exempt corporation organized under the laws of the State of Massachusetts. Contributions to AMHI are tax deductible under Section 501(c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code.  Past and current AMHI educational activities include:
