Youth Corner - AMHA Youth Council

The American Morgan Horse Association's (AMHA) Youth Program is undergoing lots of changes for 2007. One of the biggest changes so far affects the youth-led governance of the program. The AMHA Youth Board has undergone a transformation and has received a new name more befitting its new structure.

As of June 1st it is now called the AMHA Youth Council. The Council is comprised of a President, Vice-President, Secretary, ten Regional Directors and the newly added Regional Representatives. Additionally the immediate past president will continue in an advisory role with the title Ex-Officio, formerly known as the Chairperson.

All positions will be elected for a two-year term, with the exception of the Regional Representative positions which will be filled for one year at a time.

Youth age 12 and over are invited to complete an application to join the council as a Regional Representative. This new position was created as a development program for youth who are interested in learning about leadership and governance. Regional Directors, formerly Vice-Presidents, and all other Council members will be selected from the sitting Regional Representatives. Responsibilities of this new position will include meeting attendance, youth program knowledge and promotion and assistance with youth activities and programs in their region.

Applications to become a member of the AMHA Youth Council as a Regional Representative are due to the AMHA office by August 1, 2007. Selected youth will be notified by September 1 and will serve through December 31, 2008.

For more information contact the AMHA office or a member of the AMHA Youth Steering Committee or Youth Council.

Remember, all youth age 12 through 21 are invited to join the Council and help to determine the future of the AMHA Youth Program by applying to be a Regional Representative.
