Jack's For Me In Region 3...Yes spring has finally sprung, especially in some areas such as the Kentucky Horse Park (KHP). What a beautiful two days it was last weekend as I visited the park. Like some of you I have been to the park but not really able to see all it has to offer. The buildings are a beautiful display of architecture with easy walkways to and from every exhibit. Massive full size bronze statues of horses of various breeds greet you along your way as you walk the park. You can see great race horses from the past as well as foals at play in their frozen but inspiring poses in the bronze work. An awesome example of one of our Morgan Horses is also there and it really represents what bold and striking features that the Morgan horse exemplifies in real life. The AMHA has a building at the park that promotes our beautiful breed. There are two mechanical rides and a video that plays telling about the Morgan breed. Also in the building are some brochures that people can take to find out more about the Morgan horse. The World Equestrian Games (WEG) are coming to the KHP in 2010, this will be the first time the games have been held in the United States. The park is adding a large coliseum and other construction projects to get ready for the games. Our association is also planning on participating in some form with the WEG games. A committee is working on putting together some ways that we can promote our breed to the 600,000 plus visitors expected for the games. This venue would be a great place to have a Morgan show! As I left I promised myself that I would come back with the grandkids during the summer when things are really in high gear and share with them the warm feeling of horses, nature and good times. Maybe you could also get away this summer and enjoy what the KHP has to offer. Summer is coming and it won't last long so come on down and feel the fun! Happy trails.
