Dear Region 7 Members,

Our Director At Large, Bill Pettis has sent me some good information on his and wife, Carol's, recent attendance at the Diamond Jubilee in Del Mar (San Diego County) CA.

He reports that there are many young people coming along and competing at the show, which certainly is good news to me. When we first started the San Diego Morgan Horse Club, we worked especially hard to see there were plenty of places for the young people to enjoy their Morgan horses, including the Diamond Jubilee Class A Morgan Horse Show.

He also reminded me that when the Region VII Banquet was held the young riders gave many of the demonstrations at the visits to the various training facilities and farms.

As Cindy Munier has reported, there was also a good turnout for the Judges School at the Diamond Jubilee. We can always use more judges and I encourage everyone involved with Morgan horses who is able to do so to sign up and begin the process to get your judging credentials.

More good news, George Arnold is home and recovering very nicely from a 5 bypass surgery! I did not even know there was such a thing as a 5 bypass surgery. The best to George and his family.

We have a wonderful opportunity to "strut our stuff" and put on a super convention in Sacramento in 2009. Please come forward with ideas for the convention and any who can help, please do so. Sponsorships from private individuals to major corporations will put this upcoming convention over the top and surely we can do that.

Please contact Bill Pettis or Ann Taylor with your ideas, offers of help and or sponsorships. We can all welcome Morgan horse enthusiasts from around the world to our Golden State.

It is time to be gearing up for the Morgan Sporthorse Classic, 5/16 to 5/18, to be held again at the Woodland Stallion Station at 33520 County Road 20, Woodland, CA. This is a fun place to compete with a wide variety of rated classes. Check out www.woodlandstallion.com.

The Western States Horse Expo will be held June 11 - 13 at the California State Fair Grounds in Sacramento. Patti Bell is the chair for the booth, so please contact her for more information. This is the AMHA booth and the Sacramento Valley Morgan Horse Club Board voted to be responsible for the booth.

The information available to me is that the Western States Horse Expo is the largest and most comprehensive equine exposition and trade show in North America. The Expo is a three-day event serving the interests of horsemen in an entertaining and informative atmosphere. From the Market Mall, featuring hundreds of vendors, to dozens of knowledgeable clinicians and experts this Expo also includes a complete display of breeds and sports as well as a premium horse sale, an art show, and a world class riding competition. I have been fortunate enough to have attended the Western States Expo for a number of years and guarantees that it is a great place to let people know about Morgan horses. There is also lots to learn, good food to eat and great fun to be had.

The Sacramento Valley Morgan Horse Club is moving the historical Mother Lode Championship Morgan Horse Show to the first class facility at Rancho Murieta, just outside of Sacramento, CA. This brings the show back closer to its roots, The Mother Lode Country, and will allow more families and exhibitors to be able to attend, most especially the youth. The SVMHC now has two very active youth groups, one in the Grass Valley area and one in the Placerville area.

Please keep up with what is happening on a National basis by contacting www.morganhorse.com periodically and by reading your Network.

I welcome your suggestions and comments. My phone number is in the Membership Guide. It has been my pleasure to Co-chair both the AMHA Dressage Committee and the AMHA Archive Committee this past year. You will be especially pleased with what we have come up with in the Archive Committee. A template is now available to help local club historians interview those special people in each area.

Thanks to all who have contributed to promoting our wonderful Morgan horse breed.

Marjorie L Hazelwood
AMHA Region VII Director
