AMHA and the National Animal Identification System

AMHA staff and board members have received inquiries regarding the status of NAIS (National Animal Identification System) and its possible impact on AMHA. Many of these inquires appear to stem from recent internet postings regarding a USDA Business Plan that calls for breed registries to start using an official Animal Identification Number (AIN) in their registry.

AMHA has been keeping abreast of NAIS for the past several years through the Equine Species Working Group (ESWG) which has been evaluating the program.

Benefits in the Economic Stimulus Act for Horse Industry

From the American Horse Council

Yesterday, President Bush signed into law the Economic Stimulus Act. The bill is intended to provide a jump-start to the lagging U.S. economy. The new law includes two tax incentives that would allow a much bigger write-off for horses used in your business and other property purchased and placed in service during 2008.

Derby Gala to Celebrate 20 Years in Shelburne

The American Morgan Horse Association (AMHA) and American Morgan Horse Institute (AMHI) hope you'll spend the 133rd Kentucky Derby in Shelburne, Vermont, to help them celebrate the 20th anniversary of the "Home of the Morgan." This is a fun filled weekend hosted by the Building Committee. AMHA Executive Director, Julie Broadway, said, "We hope everyone will turn out and enjoy the food and fellowship. While this is designed to increase awareness of the 'capital building campaign' underway and encourage the Morgan community to visit the national headquarters, this is not a fundraiser or an 'ask' event. We simply want everyone to come have fun and celebrate with us."

Calvin's many accomplishments and gifts to the breed are well appreciated by many Morgan enthusiasts. Calvin was honored at the recent 2008 AMHA Convention in Minneapolis, but was unable to accept his award in person. Congratulations, Calvin!
