Dear Region 10 members,

The recent 2008 Annual Meeting, election, and convention was another successful, educational, and enjoyable time. We had fun! The members in the Minnesota club pulled out the stops for the convention. The chilly weather was a bit of a shock for us Southerners, but the people in Minnesota were warm and friendly and showed us wonderful hospitality, you betcha! The barn tours were spectacular, the receptions fantastic. Many thanks to the hard working Convention Committee who arranged the seminars, barn visits, speakers, food and fun.

The Awards Luncheon and Banquet were exciting and touching to listen to and watch with plenty of good friends, good food and good Morgan Fellowship. A highlight for me was having Region 10's Pete Jaeger named as AMHA Man of the Year. Congratulations, Pete! And thank you for all the many things you have done and do for the Morgan horse and for the Morgan people.

The new AMHA election process went smoothly and efficiently. Many thanks to Linnea Sidi and her committee for all the work, effort and time that went into this project.

Newly elected and re-elected Directors are:
Region 3 - Sherry Cole and Jack Gaitwood
Region 4 - Pat West
Region 5 - Kris Beyer
Region 10 - Barbara Hewitt (Thank you to all who supported me!)
Director at Large - Harry Sebring

The AMHA/WMF Stallion Service auction set a new record of $159,639.00 raised. Many thanks to the generous stallion owners for donating their stallions' services and many thanks to the generous bidders! This will help supply funding for marketing and promotion, The World Morgan Futurity, and Regional Shows.

Cindy Mugnier is the new Board President. She brings a wealth of Morgan knowledge and experience, and we are glad to have her expertise. Many thanks to Mike Goebig for so capably serving as our Board President these last few years. Mike's steady leadership, good judgment, and gentlemanly manner served us all well.

The AMHI/AMHA Capital Building Committee is planning a fantastic get together and Gala on Derby weekend May 2 - 4, 2008 in Shelburne. Join a tour of the AMHA Headquarters and a walk through our National Museum with a wine and cheese party, complete with music from a local band. Saturday you can enjoy barn tours and some of Vermont's points of interest. At the Saturday evening Derby party there will be a gourmet meal and open bar, door prizes and a band for dancing. Sunday morning please enjoy a coffee bar with all the extras including local music. Be sure to check out the new two stall horse barn built to house Morgan horses.

Closer to home, Region 10's two recognized Morgan clubs have set up an excellent selection of 2008 club meetings and activities that range from trail rides to clinics to fun shows to the Annual Meeting & Awards Banquets. These clubs each put on a wonderful USEF recognized horse show with a variety of classes and a good opportunity for Morgan enthusiasts to come see the variety of disciplines Morgans do well.

If you don't already belong to a local club, please do consider joining one or both. Your local clubs are a good way to meet Morgan folks and their Morgans.

The weather here in Virginia is turning warm and green. Spring flowers are blooming all around, and the fur is flying off our Morgans! Hooray!

As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns, and ideas that you may have. The full compliment of February's AMHA Committee and Board of Directors meeting audio tapes are available online on the members-only portion of the www.MorganHorse.com website -- the next best thing to being there!

Enjoy your wonderful Morgans,
Happy Trails,
Barbara
