Youth Council
The AMHA Youth Council is composed of more than 30 members, each selected for his or her devotion to the breed, creativity, and professionalism. Members of the Council strive to adhere to the following three goals, each reflecting values held by AMHA Youth:
-To perpetuate and promote the Morgan’s long standing history of excellence, athleticism, intelligence, and willingness.
-To attract equine-minded youth nationwide to AMHA Youth Programs by developing diverse, interesting, and effective campaigns and programs to increase youth involvement.
-To offer guidance to other AMHA youth and serve as an exemplary role models. Members of the Council are not only representatives of their region, but AMHA.
The Council is comprised of a President, Vice-President, Secretary, ten Regional Directors and the newly added Regional Representatives. Additionally the immediate past president will continue in an advisory role with the title Ex-Officio, formerly known as the Chairperson.
All positions will be elected for a two-year term, with the exception of the Regional Representative positions which will be filled for one year at a time.
Youth age 12 and over are invited to complete an application to join the council as a Regional Representative. This new position was created as a development program for youth who are interested in learning about leadership and governance. Regional Directors, formerly Vice-Presidents, and all other Council members will be selected from the sitting Regional Representatives. Responsibilities of this new position will include meeting attendance, youth program knowledge and promotion and assistance with youth activities and programs in their region.
Applications to become a member of the AMHA Youth Council as a Regional Representative are due to the AMHA office by August 1 of each year. Selected youth will be notified by September 1 and will serve through December 31 of the following year.
