AMHECT Awards Memorial Grants
May 16th, 2018
The American Morgan Horse Educational Charitable Trust (AMHECT) is pleased to award five recipients memorial grants this year in loving memory of Harry Sebring and Elberta Honstein.
The applications always present a daunting challenge to the selection committee. The Morgan breed is very lucky to have so many young adults and youth members pursuing such a variety of programs and providing such extensive submissions for consideration.
This year, four grants were issued in memory of Harry Sebring. Harry Sebring was a renowned Morgan horse trainer and served as President of AMHA. The grant was created by his family in his memory since he always wanted to see young adults excel personally and professionally.
• Calliope Welsh (Guthrie, OK), Katie Wexler (Ovella, TX), Chloe Saint Loup (Midlothian, TX) and Emilia Saint Loup (Midlothian, TX) will be participating in Morgan Safenet’s Youth Trainers Alliance (Making Morgans Accessible) for aspiring trainers to be matched with rescue Morgans to work, prepare, show, and promote as "adoptable."
This year, one grant was issued in memory of Elberta Honstein. Elberta Honstein and Roy-El Morgan Farm have a rich and long history with the Morgan breed. Roy-El Morgan Farm was founded in the early 1960s by Roy and Elberta Honstein. They passed their love of Morgans to their daughter, Debbie, and then Debbie’s daughters, Elberta Seybold and Erlene Seybold-Smythe. The farm still operates under the third generation to continue the tradition.
• Clea M. Cloutier (Derry, NH) will be spending five days furthering her equine education at Cottonwood Creek Ranch in Oklahoma.
AMHECT would like to congratulate the recipients as well as the other applicants on their pursuit of further education and training. A special thank you is extended to the numerous people that donated to these memorial grant funds in memory of two VERY special people. The next grant period will open on January 1, 2019 and close on March 18, 2019. All qualified members are encouraged to apply and/or re-apply.
