Final Horse Protection Act Rule on Hold

January 31, 2017

Last month, AMHA applauded the U.S. Department of Agriculture's passage of a new rule intended to eliminate soring practices in the Tennessee Walking Horse and Racking horse breeds. The new Administration has issued a government wide freeze on all new federal rules, including this one, until further review. It is unknown if and when the review will occur and whether the rule will be approved. The enforcement of the Horse Protection Act will continue to operate under the existing regulations and AMHA will continue to regulate horse welfare at its Licensed Competitions.
