Judging School Scholarship Application Closes Saturday

July 12, 2017

Applications close Saturday, July 15 for the AMHA Young Adult Alliance's (YAA) fourth annual Judging School Scholarship. The Professional Development Project created by this passionate group awards a $1,500 scholarship to one individual aged 21-40, professional or amateur, who is interested in attaining their Morgan "R" judging card.

“The Young Adult Alliance was founded to help encourage young adults to get involved with and help strengthen the Morgan breed. This scholarship helps remove the financial roadblock and encourages young adults to join the Morgan judging pool and give back to the Morgan breed through judging,” said YAA Co-Chair Steven Handy.

The scholarship will be paid out as tuition reimbursement upon the successful completion of two judges schools and one learner judging position. Activities must be completed within a two-year period from December 31 of the year awarded.

Any professional or amateur, age 21-40, who has the intent of becoming a USEF Morgan "R" judge may apply. Applicants may submit a 500-word essay on the topic: “What I hope to learn from Morgan judging school and what I will contribute to the judging pool.”  In addition, applicants must include one recommendation letter from a current USEF "R" Morgan judge, a resume, and the completed application.

Selection will be based on the applicant's passion and desire to contribute to the Morgan breed and uphold the breed standard as expressed in the essay, Morgan experience as outlined in the application, and the experience, dedication and commitment suggested from the letter of recommendation. Professional or amateur competitor status will not be taken in to consideration in the selection process. Past winners include: Josh Noble, Melissa Morrell, and Jordan Cusumano.

Applications for the 2017 YAA Judging School Scholarship will open from June 1-July 15, 2017. For an application, please visit http://www.morganhorse.com/yaa/yaa-project.
