USEF Competition Lite Now Available

April 4, 2018

Morgan competitions that are not currently licensed through US Equestrian (USEF), now have the option to obtain “USEF Competition Lite” status through a dual agreement between AMHA and the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF). Effective immediately, competitions that meet the established criteria may choose to obtain many of the benefits of USEF licensed competitions with slightly altered rules and regulations (being exempt from SOME of the typical USEF rules).

Why would competitions (not currently licensed with USEF) consider this Competition Lite program? It depends on what the competitions and/or exhibitors desire. Being associated as Competition Lite would provide support to the competition management in debt collection, promotion of the event, etc. Competitors would know that a level playing field could be expected via the use of the USEF Rule Book, minimum competition requirements, and if participating in the USEF Horse of the Year Program, half-points.

It is important to note that one of the requirements to obtain USEF Competition Lite status for the “Morgan Division” is that the show MUST already have been approved as an AMHA Star Rated Show. A show cannot obtain USEF Competition Lite status without first obtaining AMHA Star Rating status. However, a Star Rated show is not REQUIRED to obtain USEF Competition Lite status. This is at the sole discretion of the show committee, manager, etc.

"There are so many benefits of being associated with the National Governing Body for Equestrian Sport (USEF)," stated AMHA Executive Director Carrie J. Mortensen. "AMHA recognizes that not all shows will be interested or have need for this additional layer of protection and benefits. However, we felt it was important to at least make it available to competitions and allow them to make their own decisions. We are thrilled that USEF is reaching out to the equestrian community in new and innovate ways to encourage all things equestrian."
