In Memory: Terry Sanborn

January 22, 2019

Terrence L. Sanborn, 67, died Friday, January 11, 2019.

Terry was born and raised in Breckenridge, MN, son of the late Teckla A. (Lesner) Sanborn and the late Clifford Sanborn. He was a graduate of Breckenridge High School, Class of 1969, and attended the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, where he was a student coach and manager for the university’s baseball team. In the early 1970’s, Terry took a leave of absence from his studies and began a 19-year career at the Bookmen Co., Minneapolis. He and Janise married in 1975 and raised their daughter in Eden Prairie, MN.

In 1993, Terry finished what he had started some 20+ years earlier and proudly graduated from the Carlson School of Management at University of Minnesota. Soon after, he began a 15-year career as a Tax Accountant at GE Capital, where he remained until his retirement. In 2013, Terry and Janise relocated to Massachusetts to be closer to their daughter and her family, and Terry truly relished his new role as a grandfather.

An avid football, baseball, and horse racing fan, he enjoyed traveling with his wife - visiting 48 of the 50 states - and dining out with family and friends.

He leaves his wife of 43 years, Janise J. (Dreyer) Sanborn; his daughter, Dr. Keri Sheehan, and her husband, Brendan, of Leominster; three grandchildren: Hannah, Evelyn, and Tristan Sheehan; a brother, Gene Sanborn, and his wife, Ellen, of MN; two sisters-in-law: Shirley Corliss and her husband, Art, of MN, and Beverly Dreyer, and her husband, Julius Walla, of NY; nieces and nephews. His step-brother, Max Sanborn, and his brother- and sister-in-law, Gary and Jan Dreyer, also predeceased him.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Cancer Research Institute, Attn: Web Donation, 29 Broadway, 4th Floor, New York, NY 10006-3111; St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105; Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation, PO Box 834, Saratoga Springs NY 12866; or Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund, P.O.
