2023 MHF Established
On January 10, 2023, The American Morgan Horse Association, Inc. (AMHA) established The Morgan Horse Foundation, Inc. (MHF) as a non-profit corporation incorporated in the state of Delaware (home residence of Kentucky) and is designated by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) organization. Per the Foundation's formation documents, it was formed to support the AMHA and the sole member of the Foundation is The American Morgan Horse Association, Inc.
Mission
The Morgan Horse Foundation, Inc. (MHF) was formed to support the American Morgan Horse Association, Inc. (AMHA) exclusively through the charitable and educational purposes of
1) providing grants and related expenses for on-going educational efforts to support an understanding of the history and benefits derived from raising and owning Morgan horses,
2) building public awareness and knowledge of the Morgan horse breed to encourage and promote an appreciation of Morgan horses by the general population, and
3) educating the general population regarding the substantial benefits provided by equine activities.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
2002 AMHECT Established
In 2002, the American Morgan Horse Association, Inc. formed the American Morgan Horse Educational Charitable Trust (AMHECT), a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, to support AMHA educational programs and services, and other charitable organizations. The Grand National & World Championship Morgan Horse Show® was operated by an AMHECT Committee known as the Grand National Show Committee.
2024 AMHECT Dissolved
In 2024, The American Morgan Horse Charitable Trust was dissolved in order to form a more properly structured 501(c)(3) non-profit “corporation” (The Morgan Horse Foundation, Inc.) with a fully separate subsidiary (The Morgan Grand National, LLC) to operate all aspects of The Grand National & World Championship Morgan Horse Show®. In 2024, The Morgan Horse Foundation accepted all assets and duties from the recently dissolved Trust. The Foundation continues to operate all scholarship/grant programs and be the charitable arm of our industry.
