In Memory: William Bandy

January 22, 2019

William "Bill" Bandy III, 71, of Greensboro, North Carolina, died peacefully, Monday, January 14, 2019.

Bill was born in Raleigh on New Year's Day, 1948, the son of William Bell Bandy, II and Isabel McDougal Bandy. Bill will be remembered as a charming and independent man, who pursued and enjoyed many of life's best activities. Growing up in Greensboro, he graduated from Page High School where he played football. He was President of the SAE fraternity during his time at his alma mater, NC State University. Billy continued to support the Wolfpack throughout his life, with a particular affinity for the school's golf team, a sport that he -- like most-- loved, but was never quite able to master. He strived to be a true gentleman, and reveled in the role of mentor and coach for those he was closest.

Bill spent much of his adult life in Clearwater, Florida, and in the mountains of Blowing Rock, NC. He loved sailing around the temperate waters of the Gulf equally as much as he loved hiking around the cool NC mountain lakes in the summer, always with his ever-present companions, his beloved dogs. Bill also adored the Morgan horse he rescued, Bullseye, who went on to become a dressage champion. Over the years, he had been member of numerous clubs and societies where he made friends across the country, including Feather Sound CC, Sedgefield CC, and the American Morgan Horse Association.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brother, John Bandy. Surviving are his sisters, Isabel Strong and Emma Mizell; sister-in-law, Suzanne Bandy; nieces, Isabel Schmidt, Emily Dike, and Christin & Jordan Bandy; and nephew, Tripp Regan.

The family requests with gratitude that memorials in Bill's name be made to: NCSU Student Aid Association on behalf of the Golf Team or, Red Dog Farm Animal Rescue Network Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm Chapel is assisting the family. Online condolences may be made at www.haneslineberryfuneralhomes.com.
