In Memory: Beryl Herzog

Beryl Beck Herzog, 85, of Beaverdam, Virginia, widow of Robert W. Herzog, passed away on February 10, 2017. She was born on January 15, 1932 in Richmond, Va., to the late Charles and Lucy Beck. She is survived by her son, Andrew S. Herzog (Kathy); daughter, Gwen H. Leech (Steve); and grandchildren, Robert W. Herzog II, Shelby Gray Herzog, Charles R. Leech and Preston P. Leech. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Ashley Elizabeth Herzog.

Beryl was a passionate animal lover. She raised and bred Morgan horses on her beloved farm for over 50 years. She began her leadership career heading up her daughter's 4-H Horse and Pony Club. She was a leader in the Virginia Horse Industry serving as past president of the Virginia Horse Council; past president, current board member and Hall of Fame member of The Virginia Horse Show Association and the past president and founder of Old Dominion Morgan Horse Association. She served for many years as the Morgan horse representative on the Virginia Horse Industry Board and on the Board of Directors of the Atlantic Rural Exposition (State Fair of Virginia). She was currently serving as the chairman of The Virginia Museum of The Horse. She touched many lives by sharing her love of horses. She also loved her two Mastiff dogs, Michael and Willie, who will miss her dearly. For over 50 years, Beryl was an active member of the Beaverdam Bridge Club, where she developed many dear and and long lasting friendships.
