Andy Johns Selected as 2018 Grand National Program Artist

May 9, 2018

Equine artist Andy Hartmeyer Johns (shown far right) has been selected to create the program cover of the 2018 Grand National & World Championship Morgan Horse Show®.

Andy's work can be found in the Museum of the Morgan Horse, the American Saddlebred Museum, galleries, juried art shows, as well as international and domestic private collections. She has attended major horse shows across the country, including the Lexington Junior League, the World Championships in Louisville and Oklahoma City, the Kansas City American Royal, Blue Ridge Classic in Asheville, NC, Big D (Dallas, TX), Oklahoma Centennial, and many more. She has been honored to create the artwork to advertise many of the above horse shows and she is best known for her commissioned contemporary portraits.

"Choosing the artist is one of the chair’s privileges but we try not to reveal the cover until the show so that it’s a surprise," said 2018 Grand National chair, Sherry Cole. "Andy's work just pops! It is very unique, bright and colorful and that’s what I wanted for the cover.

“I am beyond thrilled to have Andy create the artwork for the program cover this year," she continued. "She absolutely understood exactly what I wanted. It’s very special!”

“I am delighted to work with the 2018 Morgan Grand National Horse Show Chair, my fun and funny Hoosier friend, Sherry Sparks Cole!" Andy said. "Sherry had some fabulous ideas for the creation of dynamic cover art. Together we imagined a very colorful, unique, inviting, and fun image of a glorious Morgan horse as never before depicted on the cover art. It is our hope that this artwork will cater to the imagination of all horse enthusiasts, drawing spectators to our wonderful horse show."

The 2018 Grand National will take place October 6-13 in Oklahoma City. For more information, go to www.morgangrandnational.com.
