Elysium Boanerges (Brego) a government bloodline Morgan, owned by Anthony Camera was voted Equine of the Year for 2023 by the Wisconsin Horse Council Board of Directors and received his award this past weekend, Sunday the 16th, at the Midwest Horse Fair in Madison Wisconsin. The selection process for Equine of the year begins with a publicly submitted nomination in the form of a 250-word essay. The essay needed to include how the nominated horse has impacted the lives of those who have been involved with him/her. The essays are then reviewed and voted upon by the Board of Directors to choose the Equine of the Year. His nomination included that when purchased 8 years ago at 9 years old, Brego was intended to be a trail horse; due to his conformation and attitude he started his show career 2 years later by participating in local pleasure shows, and participating in the AMHA Open Competition Program, being ridden by both his owner and AMHA member Abigail Lemke. In the past 6 years, he has achieved numerous high point awards and reserves at various pleasure show series and within the Open Competition Program. Brego is proficient in English and Western Pleasure, ground driving, hunter hack, Western Trail and Equitation, Western Reining and Ranch pattern work, and beginning liberty. In Dressage, he competes in both Traditional and Western disciplines and has won championships in Western dressage and Dressage Versatility this past year. Anthony and Abigail plan to advance to 1st level dressage in both disciplines by mid-summer. While in attendance at Midwest Horse Fair, Brego was featured in the breed demonstrations along with 10 other outstanding members of the Wisconsin Morgan Horse Club.
